“Stay close to God, and He will guide your steps.” These words have guided Elizabeth Loop’s life, inspiring her to lead Least of These Ministries in Asheville, serving the city’s homeless population.
Arriving at Montreat in 2008 from Jacksonville, Florida, Elizabeth aimed to pursue youth ministry. Drawn from her high school experiences, she sought a college with a strong youth ministry focus. Montreat immediately resonated with her during a campus tour. There, she experienced a profound call to serve those in need. Immersed in a weekend living as the homeless, Elizabeth’s perspective shifted dramatically. Compassion for the marginalized became central to her purpose.
A friend soon invited her to join Least of These, sparking a passion that grew over two years. When the previous directors stepped aside in 2011, recognizing her dedication, Elizabeth embraced leadership. Her journey has been marked by spiritual growth, improved communication, and deepened faith—all nurtured through Montreat’s formative influence.
Montreat’s legacy lives on through Least of These, founded by Montreat College alumnus Adam Ripley. Mentored by professor John Ellington, Elizabeth mastered leadership and scriptural application. The community at Montreat remains a cornerstone of her strength, fostering lifelong connections and growth.
God’s faithfulness sustains Elizabeth daily. Least of These continues its mission, offering nourishment and hope every Saturday—rain or shine. Volunteers are always welcome to extend Jesus’ love to those often overlooked. Reach out to lotministriesasheville@gmail.com to join their impactful work. Elizabeth credits Montreat with shaping her destiny; without it, her path—and the lives she touches—might never have unfolded as they did.
