Montreat College's 9th Bob Watt Golf Tournament Raises Over $55K for Athletics
Andrew Rivera Montreat College Hosts 9th Annual Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament
On Monday, June 5, 2026, 84 competitors across 21 squads competed at Bright’s Creek in Mill Spring, North Carolina, marking the ninth year of the Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament. Generous contributions from sponsors helped generate more than $55,000 for Montreat College’s athletic departments and facility upgrades.
The event honors Robert Watt, a 2000 inductee into the Montreat College Athletics Hall of Fame and dedicated board member who died in 2011. His son, Bob Watt Jr., attended the tournament, honoring his father’s enduring influence on Montreat’s athletic community and Cavalier spirit.
Aramark and Civil Design Concepts sponsored the day’s activities. Jesse Gardner ’02, a Civil Design Concepts senior project engineer and member of Montreat’s President’s Advisory Council, led his team to victory after finishing with the best overall score. Known for his excellence on the course and in academics—holding college records for scoring, assists, rebounds, and steals—Gardner’s performance was a highlight for attendees.
“We’re deeply thankful to everyone involved—participants, sponsors, and volunteers—for making this year’s Bob Watt Tournament such a triumph,” shared Athletic Director Garrett Jones. “Their commitment strengthens our student-athletes and enhances our campus facilities.”
Set against the backdrop of picturesque mountain views, Bright’s Creek offers a scenic, challenging layout crafted by famed architect Tom Fazio, who calls it among his personal favorites.
