For many at Montreat, the campus feels like a summer haven rather than a traditional college environment. Yet for Hannah Kate (Madsen) Bramblett (’14), it became a cherished summer retreat. Rick Madsen, Hannah Kate’s father, graduated from Montreat in 1979 and maintained ties through annual visits with the family.

Though deeply connected to her family, Hannah Kate initially didn't view Montreat as her future college choice until her friend Hannah (Scholz) McVay explored volleyball opportunities there. When contacted about joining the soccer team, she hesitated due to financial constraints but later discovered divine providence through a pivotal scholarship opportunity.
Entering as one of only four freshmen during her first year, Hannah Kate experienced both challenges and triumphs. The team's sole victory during her freshman season gave way to national tournament qualification by her junior year—a milestone she treasures alongside countless other meaningful moments at Montreat.
"My cup was overflowing," she recalls. "I was surrounded by friends, mentors, and community members who nurtured my growth."
Today, Hannah Kate's closest friends are fellow Montreat alumni who helped shape her identity. Faculty and staff also played vital roles in her development, particularly through her work as a Wilson Scholar alongside brother Joseph (’16), contributing to both Advancement and Communications offices.
"Being heard and valued as a student worker made me feel significant," she shares. "Every contribution mattered."
Connections formed at Montreat proved transformative. Dave Walters, her supervisor, invited her family to dinners, while the Aceto couple—former dorm parents to her father—became lifelong mentors. These relationships strengthened her personal faith beyond mere instruction.

"They built the foundation for my adult life," she explains. "Their influence remains profound."
Motivated to give back, Hannah Kate joined the Alumni Association Leadership Council to support current students while maintaining family connections in North Carolina. With brother Joseph also serving, this role deepened her commitment.
Currently residing in Central Florida with husband Everett and their growing family, Hannah Kate works for Booster Enterprises promoting character development in schools. After nearly a decade in her position, she credits Montreat for instilling enduring values.
"Montreat taught me to serve others," she encourages current students. "Your purpose isn't self-centered—it's rooted in something greater than yourself."
