Montreat College's Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Scott Foran, has celebrated the release of two new poems in esteemed literary journals, elevating his published works to over forty pieces.

His newest piece, "kafka in the snow," appeared in the inaugural 2026 issue of Arboreal Literary Magazine, a platform dedicated to nurturing artistic evolution. The poem contemplates Franz Kafka's fleeting life and enduring legacy through seasonal metaphors.
"This work explores my connection to nature and Kafka's wintertime narratives," Foran shared. "The imagery of autumn planting mirrors his words, blossoming into spring's scarlet blooms—a nod to tuberculosis' crimson echoes."
"Walk in the Rain," featured in the Winter 2026 Euphony Journal, recounts a tender memory of his toddler son discovering puddles, capturing childhood wonder through sensory details.
"Poetry functions like a frozen moment—concise yet layered," Foran explained. "Its power lies in subtle symbolism that rewards repeated reflection."
After teaching at institutions including William Jessup University and Shasta College, Foran began his Montreat College tenure in 2026, leading courses in English composition and creative writing.
Beyond 41 poems, his bibliography includes eight short stories, three nonfiction essays, and 23 scholarly articles. His play Fool Me Twice has also seen stage production at Shasta College Theatre.
