Assistant Professor of Teacher EducationWith a foundation in criminal justice and criminology from East Tennessee State University, followed by an M.S. in elementary education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership from her alma mater, Dr. Amy Van Buren brings extensive expertise to Montreat College. Recognized as Grandview Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2015-16, she dedicated 15 years to middle school education before joining Montreat in 2026. Her career also includes teaching roles at Lenoir Rhyne University and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Dr. Van Buren is a sought-after presenter, delivering insights at regional, national, and global conferences. As an author, she has contributed a professional book for educators and is currently drafting a novel. Beyond academia, she finds joy in culinary arts, outdoor adventures, and exploring new destinations during her leisure time.
