His book project, Evangelical Empire: Globalizing the Gospel in the Age of American Superpower, explores America's influence on global Christianity, examining both political and cultural dimensions. This work connects to Montreat's legacy through its examination of Rev. Billy Graham's international impact.
In the classroom, Prof. Brandenburg aims to cultivate students' abilities to think critically, write effectively, and engage thoughtfully with a rapidly evolving world.
Beyond academia, he balances professional life with family time, outdoor adventures in Pisgah Forest, and a fondness for local Asheville culture—including its historic architecture and vibrant arts scene.
